MAKINGMUSIC CONCERT

The LO presents an all-new MakingMUSIC concerts at The Kentucky Center twice daily March 12-14, 2025. From traditional classical repertoire and pieces created by contemporary composers and performers – including student conductors and work composed by JCPS students – the program introduces 4th and 5th grade students to the full symphony experience. Reserve your student’s concert field trip today!

Audience: Grades 4–5 | Cost: $8 per student/chaperone *

* During the 2024-25 school year, JCPS elementary schools K-Z receive complimentary admission and transportation to a MakingMUSIC concert (grades 4-5 only). JCPS schools A-J and non-JCPS schools may also attend the concert at a cost of $8 per student.

LO Conducting School

LO CONDUCTING SCHOOL

Each school attending a MakingMUSIC concert is eligible to nominate one (1) 4th or 5th grade student to the LO Conducting School. Participating students learn the art of conducting, then represent their school and debut their skills on stage during the performance. Program info will be shared in fall 2024.

Students will be asked to attend 2-3 after-school group rehearsals. Parent/guardian permission and a signed media release is required.

LO Rap School

LO RAP SCHOOL

The LO is proud to partner with Hip-Hop Based Education organization, Hip-Hop N2 Learning (HHN2L) for the LO Rap School. Each season, a new class of students receives lessons through a series of workshops with local social justice educators, hip-hop artists, and musicians to create their own rap lyrics that they perform live on stage with the full orchestra at the MakingMUSIC concerts.

MAKINGMUSIC CONCERT – 2023

Highlights of the 2022-23 season concert include classics from Edvard Grieg and Johann Strauss, Sr., multiple pieces created by contemporary artists including the LO Creators Corps resident composers – and world premieres composed by students in grades 4-12. The program also features a special rap performance from students from the LO Rap School, a collaboration between the LO and Hip-Hop Into Learning (HHN2L).
